Movie Review - Sui Dhaaga (Made in India)

September 29, 2018 5 Comments
A movie which has the feel good factor in itself and will provide you with the warmth amidst the recent movies. A story of Mauji & Mamta from a small town who aspire to start their own small scale textile business. It has been well executed by the Director Sharad Katariya who had earlier given us the lovely movie "Dum Laga Ke Haisha". Once again he comes with a sweet and simple story of everyday life and endears us.

Sui Dhaaga review

Coming to the story, Mauji (Varun Dhawan) works as a helper in a shop that sells sewing machines also doing odd jobs for his bosses which includes enacting like a dog to entertain people at his self respect's behest. He is married to Mamta (Anushka Sharma) but they don't find time for each other due to life's struggles and in laws. Mauji has a sweet mother Amma (Yamini Das) and a nagging father Bauji (Raghubir Yadav). Mauji also has a brother who is married and doesn't stay with them. Life takes turns when at the boss's son's marriage Mauji goes to such an extent that he starts acting like a dog to earn some extra bucks. Saddened by the disrespect Mamta hints Mauji to start something of his own as he is a good tailor. That's where the story of struggle and pain begins.

The story starts of with a simple introduction of the family and with Mauji's philosophy "Sab Badhiya hai". The first half has its moments but fails to create impact. The main struggle and the story picks up in the second half which depicts the hardships Mauji & Mamta goes through in achieving their goals.

Mauji and Mamta - Sui Dhaaga
Varun Dhawan who had shown that he is a good actor in the recently released movie October and Badlapur excels once again with his expressions and dialogue delivery. The effort taken by him to enact Mauji truely shows in the movie. Anushka Sharma plays the quiet Mamta who directs Mauji and guides him towards the path and Mauji takes care of the rest. She has also excelled with the dialogue delivery and her expressions mostly in the second half. Watch out for her dialogue where she explains Mauji's struggle and pain to earn a sewing machine. Raghubir Yadav as usual excels in his role as a nagging father.

Sui Dhaaga movie review
The story is  very fast paced and sometimes doesn't feel realistic but is very well displayed by the director. Songs also doesn't slow the movie and helps the pace adding soothness.

On the whole "Sui Dhaaga - Made in India" is worth a watch and as Mauji says "Sab Badhiya hai" 😍

Movie Review - Batti Gul Meter Chalu

September 25, 2018 0 Comments

"Batti Gul Meter Chalu"

A movie which revolves around the burning issues that people face with electricity and fraud bills  generated in India. A topic which mostly every common man faces - be it rural or urban areas. We all know how much we hate getting into such matters, don't we? Director 'Shree Narayan Singh', comes with the success of 'Toilet - Ek Prem Katha' which also highlighted the issue of the use of Toilets in India to deliver another satirical film on electricity fraud and corruption present in India.

Batti Gul Meter Chalu Review

After the success of Padmavat, Shahid Kapoor ("SK") delivers great performance as a hypocrite, mean lawyer making money from out of court settlements in the first half and as honest lawyer with a mission in the second half. His character transformation is truely commendable and Shahid does it with ease. Shraddha Kapoor ("Nauti") plays a small town girl and as aspiring fashion designer. She also delivers her role with ease with nothing much to showcase.

Review on Batti Gul Meter Chalu

Divyendu Sharma ("Tripathi") plays a small business owner with a weak heart and troubled with high electricity bills for his company. As his previous roles, he delivers his role with ease and perfection. Yami Gautam ("Gulnaar"), plays a defending lawyer, who comes in the later second half but has got nothing much to do due to the narrative. Finally, the courtroom drama is good but not effective highlighting only on SK with no strong defense with the accused which makes it one-sided. There are some hilarious dialogues between SK and Yami which will make you laugh.

A good and sensitive topic which could have been explored more and executed in a very fine way but due to long run time of the movie, it gets boring. On the whole BGMC, starts off with slow pace at the start but picks up in the second half and ends normally without effect. The movie is a surely 'one time watch' with superb direction and Shahid Kapoor's acting.

Dashrath Panwala, Bandra West

September 20, 2018 1 Comments
Paan, the traditional Indian mouth freshner is something that has always fascinated me. More than the betel leaf, I'm the one who used to enjoy the stuffing that used to go in it. As a kid, I still remember how happy I used to be when I could find it in wedding functions, restaurants and urge my parents to buy me one :P Yes, but now obviously I can explore and find such places where they make nice paan.

That's how we bumped at this place named Dashrath Panwala, situated on the Hill road in Bandra while we were heading to the Mount Mary Fair. This is one place you should try if you are a paan lover. He has different varieties of paan served at this tiny shop. You would just be clueless what are exact ingredients that are going in your paan. Just look at the plate below, it is just one plate with so many things apart from this, this small pan patri shop (i.e. how it is called here in Mumbai) had many containers storing different things.

Pan masala

We decided to go ahead with chocolate paan. I was mesmerized and awe-stuck with the amount of stuffing that he added to our pan. You can see for yourself on how he made this on my facebook page, there's a nice video. I was wondering how the hell will he close this.

To my surprise, he made this into a roll. Yes, you read it right! Just like how we have franky or rolls, he made it made it into a roll and served it to us. I never ever imagined in my life that I would have paan in this way. It tasted really out of this world! Trust me if you are among those whose appetite is small (obviously like me), I bet you won't be able to eat it more than that half. So, better have a better to share it.

Chocolate Paan roll

It costed us somewhere around 70 bucks but looking at the stuffing with chocolate, I felt it was worth every penny. Do give it a try & I'm sure, you won't be disappointed! Until I post again happy hogging :)

Classic fast food, Matunga central

September 15, 2018 0 Comments
Visiting Classic always feels like home. It was one go to place while studying in Khalsa college. It is opposite to Don Bosco school. It is famous for it's South Indian food and pav bhaaji.

As we were nearby, we visited this place and enjoyed Mysore Masala and Medu wada.

Mysore Masala and Medu wada

It was really tasty - the sambar, both the chutneys were fresh and yummy.

They also serve South Indian, North Indian as well as Chinese along with other fast food. Even when you pass from here, the aroma of pav bhaaji will automatically drive you to this place. Unfortunately, I could not have it as it was morning time but I would definitely recommend you all to try it!

Murg N more, Sakinaka

September 14, 2018 0 Comments
This new joint next to McDonald's in Sakinaka is the next amazing place one should visit because I'm sure you'll love the food. Like the name, they have good variety of murg items in North Indian, Chinese and Lebanese cuisine. As I used to work in Accenture Logitech Park a year ago, these near by places used to be our go-to places and I have seen around 2-3 vendors who have changed at the same place but after having tasted the food from here, it seems that this one is going to stay here forever.

The ambiance is good with good amount of light. There are seating arrangements with AC and non AC. The service too is awesome. The waiter helped us with the signature dishes which were really nice. The owner too is a very humble person who ensures that we get good hospitality.

Now, coming to food. There were plenty of options so we were confused but one thing which I saw at the entrance was something I couldn't resist from having i.e.
A) Open Chicken Shawarma - They serve it will the fillings of shawarma in a plate and pita bread around it. You will definitely need one more pita bread

Open shwarma

B) Chicken Soup - This was again recommended by the waiter. It is their special chicken soup which comes with noodles and exotic veggies.

Chicken soup

Do give it a try and for people working near Sakinaka especially Logitech Park, this is one go to place for you Friday lunch and dinner. Do let me know once you try out this place!

J Hearsch & Co. Bakery - Hill Road, Bandra

September 06, 2018 4 Comments
A hidden place on the Hill road next to Holy Family hospital in Bandra west is this oldest bakery. It's always crowded and why wouldn't it be as the items sold here tastes so yum at a price that is pocket friendly.

J. Hearsch & Co. Bakery - a very famous one on the Hill road but I'm sure you'll miss it because of it's location. I have been so many times to the in and around places over here but never did I see this hidden gem until my friend introduced me to this place. School kids, college students, oldies, everyone will praise about this place for the amazing food they serve. People also come and order for birthday parties from this place.

A Hearsch & Co.

Bandra Bakery
It is mainly famous for it's chicken burger, rolls, sandwiches and chocolate mousse. Below is all that we had -

Chicken burger
Chicken burger is so damn yummy that you just won't be able to resist yourself from having one more..

Chicken puff
Chicken puff on the other hand was loaded with chicken. I was a little disappointed by the size yet it made me believe all good things come in small packages 😜

Pudding

Pudding like never before! A completely mind boggling dessert - I can have it at any point of time. Not very sweet, perfectly apt for your taste  buds. A must visit, I would say to experience the amazing variety of bakery items.

Le Reve Cinemas - gives you the feel of a royal Theater

September 05, 2018 0 Comments
Le Reve Cinemas is a luxury and one of the most finest theater I have seen. It has contemporary design and architecture which makes it look nothing less than a royal palace. A well-crafted space where movie meets dream and dream meets reality.

Le Reve Cinemas Bandra West

Le Reve Cinemas - Seating

It is situated just above Globus on the Hill Road near Bandra Post Office, Bandra West. It has only one screen with limited seating. It is a beautiful theater with paintings, lamps, chandeliers that one will surely get mesmerized. They have also maintained it very well. You will see beautiful floral decorations on either sides of the screen.

Floral decor - Le Reve Cinemas

Le Reve Cinemas
I enjoy coming to this theater because it gives a feel good factor along with entertainment. They have ads that educate people on keeping the theater clean by being a responsible citizen of throwing the snacks, beverages packages in the dust bins after watching movie while exiting from the theater. I personally liked this a lot - each one should be responsible for the litter they create. Usually we see people messing around the place leaving the place dirty with the left-overs of their snacks and beverages all around the place in the theater. This cannot be stopped immediately but people can become more responsible and follow the mission of 'Swach Bharat Abhiyan' launched by our Prime Minister Narendra Modi and make this mission come true of clean India.

When it comes to food & beverages, they have good combo offers on it. The service too is quick and priced moderately. Just few suggestions -
  • Do not go for the packaged pop-corns, they weren't that great.
  • Loose pop-corns are better options
  • Do try their mini kheema samosa, it was very tasty
  • They have different varieties of cafe for the coffee-lovers
Le Reve Cinemas
I would love to visit this place time and again. I would suggest you all to visit it at least once as it indulges one in anything between 'typically cinema' and 'high-end patisserie’, all with a touch of Michelin class.
