One word review: Avoidable
A love story based on the pre-Independence British era in 1945 where the young Roop (Alia Bhatt) is torn between respect for husband Dev (Aditya Roy Kapur) and her newfound love for Zafar (Varun Dhawan). Their back stories unfolds and haunt their present and decide their future during the India’s Partition era.
What's Good: There are quite a few good stuff that includes - Alia Bhatt & Varun Dhawan with their screen presence & chemistry. Alia looks beautiful and delicate from start till the end, all thanks to her amazing costumes. Kunal Khemu shines in his small role with grey shade. The sets and the design looks great & humongous.
What's Bad: Too many things to be honest starting with the chemistry. There is absolutely no chemistry between the actors be it Madhuri & Sanjay to Aditya & Sonakshi. Their expressions looks forced and the love isn't visible in any scenes they portray. The length 2 hours and 48 minutes is too long for people to sit and watch the movie. After the first 30 mins, the movie becomes predictable and it feels a decade inside the theater. The direction and the screenplay is too bad that the dialogues seems boring in the course of the movie. Many scenes are left incomplete in the movie and the characters are not well written. The "Bull Fight" scene looks kiddish and has bad VFX which makes it hilarious rather than intense.
Overall, a movie which totally justifies the title and can be avoided easily. With a low rating of 2.5/10 in IMDB, its good to avoid this movie and watch 'Devdas" instead ;)
