Mini Punjab - Sion Koliwada

May 22, 2018 0 Comments
Mini Punjab in Sion Koliwada happens to be a very famous place for its food. It's always crowded with people. They are very old and therefore people come from far away places too like we did.

They have both in house and parcel services. Majority of the people prefer taking parcel. They have a seating area which has around 5 tables. The service is bad as there's lot of waiting period.

They had good option for food & we tried the most selling item here.
A) Prawns Koliwada and fish koliwada - They serve it as a separate dish and also give combination. In that way, we tried both. Prawns Koliwada was too tasty. I could order it again. Perfectly crispy and well marinated. Fish though lagged taste. Thumbs up for prawns koliwada.

B) Butter chicken with Lachha paratha - Another famous dish that we ordered assuming it is to be the best but it was a little disappointing. First and foremost thing, the waiting period killed my mood followed by not so tasty food turned me off. Though I would say Lachha paratha was still better.

There are plenty of other dishes worth trying especially the starters like chicken tandoori, kebabs etc. They have varied other options to look for.

The only thing that you need to keep in mind is to have patience. It is pocket-friendly so good for any pocket size.

Mangalore diaries - Food Delight

May 19, 2018 0 Comments
Wherever I go the food monster in me follows 😄 Well why wouldn't it as I was in my native place & like any other place, there are hell lot of famous eateries which I have been eating since childhood but never shared. So, thought of sharing with you guys now.

Mangalore/Mangaluru

Mangalore also known as 'Mangaluru' is on the coast of Arabian sea. It is situated just below Goa in the Konkan area. It has lot of things under it's stride to attract not only the Indian crowd but also the foreigners.

Wanna know what are they? Here you go -
A) Gotti soda - This is something we have always had. It is nothing extraordinary but mere soda since the bottle is designed in such a way that it has Gotti (marble) as its nob which makes it fascinating. It has different flavors apart from the regular one like orange, jeera, ginger etc. It is good to quench your thirst in this hot summer.

B) KT - Kalladka tea is a three layered tea found in Hotel Lakshmi Niwas in Kalladka. It is rich in aroma, good taste and also has health benefits. You can try this here as it is unique to this place. Something different than the usual tea.

C) Goli bajje - Very famous among people of all ages in Karnataka. A mouth watering dish which I can never say 'No' to & when served hot can be the best thing on this earth.

Goli bajje

D) Bella Candy - It is an ice candy made of jaggery. It tastes like payasam or rather kheer in hindi with a bit of coconut & jaggery flavor. It is made by the most famous 'Ideal' ice-cream which should be available in the local stores if they keep 'Ideal' ice-creams. Ideal for the hot, summer time.

E) Gadbad and Dilkhush - Ideal and Pabbas are the famous ice-cream joints in Mangalore. When in Mangalore, people make sure to enjoy ice-cream at either of these places. Thanks to my cousin, we happened to visit this place in Kudla and we enjoyed these amazing ice-creams which was pending in my bucket list from a long time & now I can tick it!

F) Mysore pak - Another popular sweet made of ghee and chickpea flour. Tastes delicious!

There are still lot of things that I couldn't put up especially the delicious food served in temples as Seva (service) to the people who have come to worship. These are pure vegetarian South Indian food which I bet you will fall in love with :) On the other hand famous sea foods at different joints and many more. That was all about the food delight in my Mangalore diary.

J.J. Jalebi - Kurla

May 18, 2018 0 Comments
On the onset of Ramadan, when you see amazing sweets, how can one control? Yes, it was time to explore some amazing, mouth watering sweets from J.J. Jalebi. It has sweets ranging from 50 - 1000. You say it and they serve it with rabdi, dry fruits etc. Malpua, Jalebi, firni, halwa and many other types of sweets are served here.

Place - They have seating arrangements but since it was hot, we preferred standing outside and having it. Do not expect a very premium place, it is a local kind of shop so focus only on desserts.

We tasted two desserts -
A) Mawa Jalebi with rabdi - It was fresh and very tasty. The combination of the two is amazing with mawa Jalebi that's sweet and rabdi which is cold and has subtle sweetness.

B) Firni - My search for the perfect firni ended here after certain disappointments from places I had in the past. Freshly made, yummy in taste. I loved it! I'm definitely going to have it again.

Firni

It is just the beginning of tasting some amazing stuff so keep reading my blog for some amazing stuff.

Urban Tadka - Sakinaka

May 01, 2018 0 Comments
Urban Tadka is a famous joint for the Indian desi style, North Indian cuisine. The only reason I often visit this place is their mouth watering and amazingly delicious Chicken Tandoori 😋

This place is connected to Poptates so you will find a lot of people waiting in the queue on weekends for Poptates on the passage. Urban Tadka too has waiting but not as much as Poptates. It being a buzzing place - incase you want to avoid waiting in the queue, you should reach by 8 or latest 8.30 post this you will have to wait for seats.

Ambience - Proper traditional look with the village kind of feel. There are umbrellas hanging, old traditional kind of utensils placed. Table has a variety of spices underneath for display purpose. In short, Dhaaba look but in a little modernized way.

Staff - Very courteous. The main manager came in between to checks if everything is going good. This was not just in specific to our table but he made sure to check all the tables if customers were having good time and everything was fine. A nice gesture to make sure the customers are having good time.

Jumping to Food
A) Tandoori Murgh - I have visited this place only to satisfy my craving for tandoori and it always tastes the best. Even this time, it was nicely marinated making it taste like heaven. The first morsel in my mouth & I was like, 'mmmmm' 😌 Please do try this, my personal favorite (I would always be ready for a date here if you bribe me with the tandoori starter of this place 😄)
The green and orange chutneys add to the taste. Even now when I'm writing about it, my mouth is watering 😂

Tandoori Murgh (chicken tandoori)

B) Chura papad - Tried this different dish than the usual masala papad. These are papads broken into pieces with fried onions. It tasted well. (no picture here because we finished it & later realized we didn't click 😜)

C) Laal Mass - After having the chicken starter, we jumped to mutton delicacy in the main course. It was a thin gravy with good pieces of mutton.

Laal Maas with lachha parauntha and roti

D) Lachha parauntha and roti - We had Laal Maas with both these items made of wheat flour. Perfectly cooked, soft and served hot.

We were full so we didn't go ahead with the dessert but you can try garam jalebis with rabdi for the perfect end (I have had this in the past)

Other recommendations -
Non vegetarians - Murgh Makhanwala (for the butter chicken lovers)

Vegetarians - Dilliwala paneer (stater for the vegetarians), daal makhani

Wow! A perfect dine out with good food and company. They give Corporate discounts too for selected companies. What more can one ask for!
